Perfecting Love:Is There Such A Thing?

It 's a rewrite of one of my past Valentine blogs. If there's one lesson I learned from my sleep doctor few years back, this is it. Today is my reality :)

BFF 167: I Will Always Love You

"Perhaps all the questions we ask of love, to measure, test, probe, and save it,have the additional effect of cutting it short. Perhaps the reason we are unable to love is that we yearn to be loved, that is, we demand something (love) from our partner instead of delivering ourselves to him demand-free and asking for nothing but his company."
~Milan Kundera (The Unbearable Lightness of Being)

Perfecting Love: Is There Such A Thing?

Look at it

closely

it is your heart

focus your attention on it

it's beating

it's alive

at this very moment

it doesn't know any past

neither any future

it only recognizes the PRESENT

the HERE NOW PRESENT

it is the only REALITY it knows of

to define LOVE is to court complications

love has no definite definition

no wonder misunderstandings are common

many unfortunate things happen when things get taken the wrong way

what could already be Love to someone could not be enough Love to another

how often we've asked the question

 "Do you really love me?"

hearing the unintentional lie

"Yes, I will always love you."

only to bring ourselves in the pit of frustrations

wishing we could do-over something that is never present.

The different notions we've attached to the meaning of Love

kill our ability to love

commitment, faithfullness, intimacy, closeness, loyalty, sacrifice, passion, desire, trust, devotion, etc.

but who has perfected Love?

Somehow one or two of these characteristics are not present in a relationship

but are we quick to judge that the absence of one of these isn't love at all?

Have we really defined Love and came out with a perfect definition?

Maybe that's where the problem lies.

We go through our relationships with already preconceived notions of what Love should be

hence, the never ending conditional statements...

"If he really loves me, he would _______________"

then we analyze our partners how they measure up with OUR definition of what Love is

oftentimes, our  virtue is choked with foul expectations and pride

without realizing that every individual is unique

that every loving person has his own way to express his affection

the intents are the same but we vary on our ways

the destination we hope to arrive at is the same

but the routes we take are different

happiness can be found by simply loving someone

and loving simply

and from there, we build...

and build

and

a  reservoir  of  patience, kindness and understanding

providing constant irrigation for barren hearts and empty souls

that's how love works

to define it is to put limits on it

love can not be perfected

for it always has the potential to be more beautiful

and as excessively luscious as maple and caramel syrup

each passing day.

I am breathing

my heart is beating

and at this very moment ...

it is capable to love more

for it knows neither past nor future

TODAY is MY REALITY.

The only REALITY I know of.

    1. Yep! It has a lot of applications actually. When u can't sleep, don't think of the past and don't worry about your schedule the next day much.Just concentrate on your breathing..feel your breathing...stripping your mind of everything and you'll eventually be able to fall asleep.

  12. Great perspective on love. I think too often people try to go into it with pre-determined expectations based on books and movies, dooming it from the start. I love your idea that it can't be defined because that puts limits on it. Nice job.

    1. The Nike commercial says, "Just do it." Same thing with love, "Just love and love.." How do we love? We just love..each moment..each day. It's up to us how to dance to the beat :)Thanks for your thoughtful comment Kat :)

    1. Would you also turn away if you hear someone saying those lines screaming out from the top of his lungs, "I want you..I want all of you!"?lol! But what I loved about the clip was his formula for relationships that although it's not easy, they will have to work it out, each day, each moment...in between rebounds :)
